In 1957, a group of traders decided to set-up a small silver
plating workshop in Heliopolis, a district north of Cairo
city.
This workshop had a dual purpose: first to silver plate
stainless steel and brass items manufactured in Europe, and
second, to
offer hotels and restaurants after-sales service and maintenance.
Eventually,
under the management of one of the owners, Mr. Maher Henein,
the company became the representative of BEARD S.A. (Switzerland),
and later WMF (Germany). With these two agencies, BEARD and WMF,
the company controlled 60% of the hotels and restaurants market.
In
1984, under the management of Mr. Karim Henein, the company changed
the strategy from importation to manufacturing, and the
workshop was moved out of Cairo, in the Hykestep industrial zone.
With
limited expansion, the company started small scale manufacturing
under a new entity METALART SILVERWARE S.A.E.
The
increasing demand for quality Stainless Steel and Silver plated
helped the company to expand even further, and the small
scale factory was moved to the industrial zone in Ramadan 10th
City. Furthermore, In 1998, METALART acquired an even larger
site in the same industrial city and a new larger factory was
built.
In 2001, a new venture was established between METALART,
AL-AHLY for DEV. & INV. (an investment company), BEARD S.A.
(Switzerland) and other prominent Egyptian Investors. This new
venture METALART
S.A.E. First acquired all the manufacturing assets of BEARD
S.A. in Montreux and then complemented its new Hollowware
and Flatware production lines by buying most of the machines,
tools and dies of the famous American tableware manufacturer "FORMAN & SONS" of
Brooklyn, New York.
Today METALART S.A.E. is the largest
tableware manufacturer in the Middle-East and Africa, and its
quality products are exported
to many countries worldwide including U.S.A., Switzerland, Canada,
Mexico, Croatia, U.A.E., Saudi-Arabia, Mauritius, South-Africa,
Ivory Coast, etc.
